TV Screen Display

Your guys have done a wonderful job and I hope that some of other user's suggestions will be soon implemented. Especially I like the idea of feeding, falling leaves and changing fish behavior modes.

Now something completely different: I always thought that the newer generation LCD and Plasma TVs with their extraordinary clear and brilliant pictures are not exploited to the full extend. Rather than having the thing sitting dead in a room, when not watching TV, I would really enjoy the display of your program on TV screen. I am aware that I can link my PC to it, but these would mean running miles of cable.

So, what do you think of creating a DVD version? Or maybe the future generation TVs may even support memory chips with your program installed?

Well, changing a TV into something like a live picture frame, aquarium tank or a window overlooking your Koi Pond - that I would call art and enhancement of life style.

Funny you should mention that.

Raefer and I are currently putting together an art installation version of the pond scheduled to go up in a gallery in New York at the end of the month.

It will be on a large plasma display (attached to a computer), possibly with a touch screen attached so you can just touch the screen to ripple the water and interact with the fish.

I think this is indeed a new breed of artwork!

Perhaps at some point, if we are popular enough, we'll put out a DVD version - unfortunately, it would have to loop and would be the same every time you watched it (and you wouldn't be able to interact with it). Still might be nice though.

You are correct, the animation has to be looped. However, if you create 2-3 hours of recording, one would hardly notice the loop. With respect to interactive feature, one side of the DVD could contain a certain way of display while the other side shows a different way of animation.

Most DVD players have the feature of zooming and to change view angles which would give additional options to the user.

I believe your program and the way animation is done so well it is just too good to be "wasted" on a PC screen alone. Look at the reality: how long does anyone sit in front of a PC and watch a screensaver?

While on TV it could be part of your life style, i.e. having it displayed while having dinner or having it at a nice background feature while sitting together with family or friends.

The koi pond definitely looks fabulous on a TV - we are driving a plasma display with a small-form factor PC at the exhibit later this month. I agree with you, a DVD version might be popular. You lose the interactivity of course, but you gain ease of use and prominent living room placement.
